DMRC to install mobile towers on five prominent corridors

New Delhi: Soon, your frustration over no mobile network while commuting in Delhi Metro will end, as the mobile phone connectivity at five corridors (Red line, Blue line, Green line, Yellow line and Violet line) of the Delhi Metro network is likely to get improved in the coming months. "Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) is going to install 94 mobile towers across its network across NCR, which the corporation hopes would vastly improve mobile connectivity," said official.

On busiest corridor, blue line, would have largest number of mobile towers at 36 locations from Dwarka -Noida City Centre/ Vaishali. Moreover, in between the Noida City Centre to Shadipur metro Stations and between Laxmi Nagar to Vaishali metro stations, DMRC to installed towers at 18 locations. Furthermore, 18 more towers would also be installed at in between Kirti Nagar to Dwarka sector 8.

On Yellow line from Samaypur Badli to HUDA City Centre around 18 towers would be installed at the corridor and the oldest corridor (Rithala-Shaheed Sthal New Bus Adda), which is Delhi Metro's oldest corridor, would get mobile towers at 15 locations. Around 14 locations have been detected to installed the mobile tower at the Violet line corridor between Kashmere Gate to Raja Nahar Singh metro station and on the Green Line corridor between Inderlok to Brigadier Hoshia Singh wil get around 11 mobile towers.

This project will be completed after six months of handing over the responsibility of installing the towers to the telecom companies. There is almost zero network availability at many metro stations. Also, the new metro stations of Phase-3 have reported a greater problem of signal and mobile connectivity. "DMRC has initiated the process to address this problem. The metro stations across the underground stretch face regular connectivity issues and the metro operator has taken this into serious consideration," said sources.

While DMRC is planning to improve mobile connectivity at most of its 'older' corridors, there are no plans to install metro towers along the comparatively newer Pink (Majlis Park-Shiv Vihar) and Magenta Lines (Botanical Garden-Janakpuri West) corridors. A DMRC official, however, said that mobile signal booster equipment will be installed at sections of Pink and Magenta Lines where mobile connectivity is poor.
