Depressed retd dy commandant ends life by jumping from 24th floor

Gurugram: Depressed of being ill for a long time, a 66-year-old retired deputy commandant of CRPF Harbhagwat Singh committed suicide by jumping from the 24th the floor of the building in Sector-65 where he was residing.

The incident occurred at around 1:30 am on Wednesday. At the time of the incident, his wife and daughter were present in the apartment. However, they could not sense the extreme move by the retired CRPF official as they were asleep. Singh jumped from the window opening of the apartment kitchen. His son, who is based in the USA, has been informed of the incident.

After his return from the states, the post-mortem of the body will be conducted.

According to police officials, the main reason for the death of the CRPF official seems to be a suicide due to depression but they are looking into other aspects as well.

"The incident occurred at around 1:30 am when the retired CRPF official fell from the 24th floor of the residential building. Based on our discussions with the family members and neighbours, Singh was ill for a long time and therefore, was feeling depressed," said a senior police official from Gurugram police.

"Respecting the emotions of the family at the moment we will also inquire that he was taking the anti-depressant medicines or not," the senior police official added.

The incident has once again highlighted the plight of upper middle class aged people as most of them who are living alone as their sons and daughters have settled abroad or out of Gurugram.

In a recent incident, the body of an 82-year-old woman was recovered after ten days from her apartment.

The gory side of this has also witnessed in which a 77-year-old man, whose children have settled abroad, brutally killed a man along with accomplices after he failed to repay the loan. In order to cover up his crime, he then slit the throat of his wife and murdered her too.

There have also been a large number of incident of suicides in the condominium societies of Gurugram. Early in December, a 43-year-old businessman committed suicide by jumping from the ninth floor of the residential society. In 2017 26-year-old graduate from Indian Institute of Kanpur, allegedly committed suicide by jumping from the 23rd floor of DLF Magnolias, the luxurious residential apartment located at Golf Course road.
