Delhi's Signature bridge to get parking area for visitors
The official sources have confirmed that the government is working to finalise land near signature bridge so that it would be convenient for people to park their cars
NEW DELHI: With the plans of beautification of Delhi's signature bridge with lighting and also making a different spot for the tourists to see the view, the Delhi government has started to formulate a plan to make parking space for the tourists of the Signature bridge.
The official sources have confirmed that the government is working to finalise land near signature bridge so that it would be convenient for the people to park their cars.
"This week the Delhi Chief Secretary held a senior level meeting on the ongoing work at the bridge. The officials presented that when the rush of visitors will increase and if there is no separate parking space then it might create law and order situation," said an official.
He also added that as per the government's estimate that if there is no space for parking then the people will park the car at the bridge which might create a lot of traffic and also space will become prone to accidents.
"The government will not allow such a situation and a separate parking space will be made. Space should be nearby so that every visitor can walk the way till the signature bridge," said the official.
The Delhi Tourism and Transportation Development Corporation (DTTDC) is working to develop the Signature Bridge as an important tourist destination. The initiative is part of directions issued by deputy chief minister Manish Sisodia to the DTTDC after an inspection of the under-construction bridge last week. The DTTDC is responsible for the construction of the 675 meter-long bridge — the first asymmetrical cable-stayed bridge in India.
The bridge will have a 154-metre high glass viewing box which will offer a panoramic view of Delhi. The bridge will have four elevators with a combined capacity of 50 people to carry visitors to the viewing box. The bridge measures 575 metres in length and will have selfie spots for people to click photo. While being a tourist spot, the Signature Bridge will also share the burden of traffic with the Wazirabad Bridge.
The Signature Bridge was proposed back in 2004 as the first asymmetrical cable-stayed bridge in the nation. Back then, it had an estimated cost of Rs 494 crore. The projected cost was hiked to Rs 1,131 crore in 2010 when New Delhi hosted the Commomwealth Games. The project was delayed even further and its estimated cost grew to Rs 1,594 crore. The bridge is being built on the Yamuna near Wazirabad and will cut down travel time between north and north-eastern parts of the national capital.
