Delhi's dengue cases reduced to half: CM

New Delhi: Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Monday claimed that dengue cases in the city have come down to half compared to last year. Thanking the people of Delhi, the chief minister's office released a statement saying, "Thank the Delhiites for their enthusiastic participation in the ongoing Dengue prevention awareness 10 Hafte, 10 Baje, 10 Minute campaign, which is showing excellent results with the Dengue cases down to half in comparison to last year so far."

According to the data released by the state government there have been 467 cases of dengue in Delhi till now, whereas last year there had been 830 cases so far. "The data shows that there has been a steady decline in cases of Dengue in Delhi since 2015, when the disease outbreak had claimed 60 lives, but this year Delhi has controlled Dengue beyond all expectations, and even the final number of cases is expected to be very low," said the statement.

According to the data, Delhi government claimed that no dengue related death has taken place in the city till October 12. The data comes comes after the 10 Hafte, 10 Baje, 10 Minute campaign that was on September 1 to make people aware about dengue. The campaign has been in full swing, with the state government using schools to spread the information regarding the mosquito-borne disease. Meanwhile, the CM has appealed to the people of Delhi to remain alert till November 15. The key to prevention of Dengue is ensuring there is no clean stagnant water in homes and around, which does not allow the Aedes mosquitoes to breed, and therefore dengue cannot spread. The CM and deputy CM have been sharing photos and videos of replacing stagnant water on social media every Sunday since the campaign was launched.
