Delhi teachers to be equipped to educate children with special needs

NEW DELHI: Amid the creation of a new department for the people with disabilities, the government is also looking to make the facility of giving training to the teachers for the students with special needs by its own. Till now, the government used to hire such teachers from outside but as per the new plan, it would establish its new system to train the teachers.

The government had many vacancies in teacher posts for the students with special needs but recently it started the hiring process. "We are planning a major revamp on the social welfare department and many new initiatives are on the anvil. We have a major need of teachers thereafter we are thinking of making own facilities to train the teachers," said Rajendra Pal Gautam, the social welfare minister.

In Delhi, government gets various funds for the development of the citizens but the department found that for many years such funds have been stagnant; not many developmental schemes have come out. In view of this, the department has thought of the teachers training. The department will focus on the vocational training of the teachers and also train them in various art and craft works which would be helpful for the students.

The government will also look into a complete revamp of the existing rehabilitation centres for the people with special needs. The department has found that such centres in Delhi are at various places so if the government can make all the centres at one complex, the work of the department would become easier. Gautam has already formed various boards which are looking into various aspects of the existing issues of the people with special needs. Meanwhile, the committee for the transgenders would also submit the report of the findings to the government soon based on that, the government will establish a transgender development board which will look into the specific issues of transgenders in the city.
