Delhi Police heightens security to prevent crime on two busy roads

New Delhi: After mapping the crime spot, police have found that two roads in South West Delhi are often targeted by the rowdy elements. Considering the gravity of the situation, the law enforcement agency has heightened the security and is disallowing any vehicle to halt or park there. The violators are being challaned while vehicles are being impounded.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (South West) Devender Arya told Millennium Post that the police are working on different strategies to prevent crime in the area. "Our main aim is safety and security of the citizens for which different steps are being taken to curb crime," said DCP Arya.

NH-8 and Dwarka Link Road are two important routes which commuters often use while coming from other states and airport. Due to the importance and rush, criminals target the commuters with different modus operandi.

Gangs like Lifafa, Thak Thak are looking for travellers who can fall prey to their nefarious plan of knocking window or changing envelope. A strong team of 50 police personnel from four police stations and traffic is guarding the street. With local police, PCR and the private company are also staying there to make sure that nothing untoward incident happen on more than 10 kilometres stretch. Under the drive which is also aimed to stop street crime, police claimed that more than 20 to 30 violators are being challaned and over 10 vehicles are impounded every day.

The data accessed by Millennium Post claimed that more than 32 lakh challans have been made in the year 2018. Over 4,000 challans were made for using the private vehicle as the taxi, whereas 1,344 challans were issued for smoking while driving. Over 8,000 challans were made for using the mobile phone during driving. Playing loud music in the vehicle led to over 700 challans.

Whereas talking about the street crime, the city police data claimed that there was also 25 per cent decline in the street crime cases. As last year around 6,100 street crime cases were reported whereas in 2018 till June 4,563 cases were reported to the law enforcement agency. The police said that they were working hard and putting all efforts to make sure that the city remains safe.
