Delhi govt invites suggestions from people on revised parking draft rules

NEW DELHI: The Delhi government has invited objections and suggestions from people on its revised draft rules of the "Delhi Maintenance and Management of Parking places Rules-2019". Now the new policy is available on the government's website so that suggestions can be sent by people to the Principal Secretary -cum-Commissioner (Transport) on email at Commtpt@nic.in.

According to the draft rules, there shall be Apex Monitoring Committee, headed by the Transport Minister of Delhi as the Chairperson, who shall review the proper implementation and compliance of these rules. The Committee shall meet at least once in every three months. The Policy provides for exponential increase in street parking charges after the first four hour, apart from dynamic pricing with differential peak-hour and off-hour charges.

The area Parking plan made by civic agencies shall include, in their scope, parking arrangements within residential areas. The plan within such areas shall be made in consultation with the Resident Welfare Associations. It prohibits parking on footpaths and provides for impounding of junk vehicles parked on the roads.

According to draft rules, on all lanes and streets, a lane must be earmarked for unhindered movement of emergency vehicles like ambulances, fire tenders police vehicles etc, and no parking will be allowed on this lane. The new draft Policy will give power to the agencies to seize petrol and diesels vehicles other than 15 and 10 years respectively, if still running on roads. According to draft rules, the parking plans shall be prepared within four months of the notification. The local traffic police shall also be consulted in the process of plan preparation. All civic agencies in Delhi will have to implement area-specific parking plans within four months of the final notification of the draft policy.
