Delhi govt asks retail chemists not to sell schedule 'H' drugs

Observing 'rampant misuse' of scheduled drugs prescribed in Drugs & Cosmetic Rules, 1945, the Delhi government has advised retail chemists not to sell schedule 'H', Schedule 'H-11 & Schedule 'X' drugs, without prescription of Registered Medical Practitioner (RMP).
A letter addressed to president of 'All Chemist Associations of Delhi', KC Aggarwal, Deputy Drugs Controller said, "It has been brought to the notice of Govt. of NCT of Delhi, that there is rampant misuse of Scheduled Drugs prescribed in Drugs & Cosmetic Rules, 1945. It is further noted that these drugs are sold by the licensed medical store without complying with the requirement of its sale against the prescription of RMP."
"Retail Chemists are therefore advised not to sell schedule 'H', Schedule 'H-11 & Schedule 'X' drugs prescribed in Drugs & Cosmetics Rules,1945 without prescription of RMP, to maintain the records as per requirements in the said Rules and to stock drugs requiring cold storage at an appropriate temperature. Further all the retail chemists are advised to stamp the prescription of RMP in view of mandatory requirement (Rule 65 (11) (c) of D& C Rules, 1945) and for the sale of Schedule 'X' drugs the duplicate copy of the prescription be retained by the retail chemists," Aggarwal said.
