AAP govt not notifying North MCD zones: BJP

In another round of tussle between the AAP-led Delhi government and BJP-ruled Municipal Corporations of Delhi (MCDs), the latter has said that despite meeting the Deputy Chief Minister of Delhi and the Urban Development Minister in this regards, the Delhi Government has failed to notify the newly-drawn municipal zones of North Delhi, halting the functioning of the Corporation
Mayor of north MCD Preety Aggarwal said that the Corporation cannot start functioning until newly-delimited wards are notified by the government in due zones. She further said that election to the posts of Chairman and Deputy Chairman of Standing Committee and various statutory committees of North Delhi Municipal Corporation like ward committees cannot take place till the new wards are notified by the Delhi Government.
She said that she met the Deputy Chief Minister twice and the Urban Development Minister once and requested them to notify the zones at the earliest but despite that, it has not been done so far. Although, the UD minister said it would get done in a week's time. She said that Standing Committee and other Statutory Committees are pillars of the Corporation and for them to start functioning, notification of new wards is a mandatory pre-requisite.
"By not notifying the newly-drawn wards, the Government is hindering the work of the Corporation and thus welfare of citizens," added the Mayor.
