Mayors call on Venkaiah Naidu

The Mayors of all the three BJP-ruled Municipal Corporations called on Union Urban Development Minister Venkaiah Naidu on Thursday to discuss various issues related to Swachh Bharat Mission.
South Delhi Mayor Kamaljeet Sehrawat, North Delhi Mayor Preeti Aggarwal and East Delhi Mayor Neema Bhagat were accompanied by their respective Commissioners and senior officers. They discussed the progress in activities related to making the city open defecation free, sweeping and waste management.
South Delhi Municipal Corporation (SDMC) officials also pointed out some bottlenecks in achieving the desired goals and requested Naidu to render all possible help.
"SDMC is doing its best and positive results will become visible with a few months. The Urban Development Ministry is willing to release an amount of Rs 100 crore to each to the three MCDs for purchasing vital advanced machinery to accelerate the works under Swachh Bharat Mission," Naidu said.
The civic bodies have been requested to submit separate proposals to the Ministry to take an appropriate decision. The Ministry was apprised by SDMC of its initiative to make available for free usage toilets at all petrol pumps in its jurisdiction.
The Ministry asked the three Corporations to conduct urgent study for improvement of all Indian household toilets under their jurisdiction.
