Bisht killed wife after failing to save his broken marriage

Vinod Kumar Bisht told police that he had run from pillar to post to save his 14-year long marriage with Rekha, who he claimed had lost interest in him and was pursuing an extra marital affair with another man.
Bisht said he used to try to sortthings out with Rekha, after which the couple would promise to make things work, claimed Delhi Police after the initial interrogation of the accused, who was arrested on Wednesday for stabbing his wife 35 times.

"After several arguments and broken promises, he finally decided to end his marriage," police claimed. However, Rekha held her ground and told him that she would not leave her house, children and lover.
On Tuesday night, Bisht left the house for a 'drinking session' with colleagues. After waking up from his drunken stupor, he decided to return home one last time to see his children. However, he instead had a final argument with his wife which culminated in her being stabbed to death in the wee hours of Wednesday.

"We arrested the husband on the basis of information, which claimed that he would return to his house. The case against Vinod was registered at Seemapuri police station on the statements made by his son," said DCP Shahdara, Nupur Prasad.

When the accused was questioned about Rekha's murder, Vinod told the police that he and Rekha had never sought help from marriage counsellors and his family members never supported him to solve the marital discord.

"Vinod had spoken to his family and sought their help to solve the dispute. But the family members washed their hands off the matter, claiming that they did not want to intervene in the couple's private matters," said a senior police official privy to the investigation.

Police said that Vinod had allegedly caught Rekha speaking to her lover over the mobile phone several times, after which she used to promise him to end the conversations.

Vinod further told police that on Tuesday night, he had gone to pick his wife up from Mangla Bazar.

But when he reached the market, he found that she had bought a new phone with which she was speaking to her alleged lover.

An enraged Vinod then told his wife to choose between him and her lover. But his wife reportedly replied that she would stay in the house with their children and continue her relationship with her lover.

"Her answer stunned him. Vinod then packed his belongings and left home. After a drinking session, he returned home and told his wife that she was free to leave," the official added. However, his wife was adamant in not leaving the house, after which he stabbed her multiple times.
