Violet Line services crawl due to CMRS inspection

The Commissioner of Metro Railway Safety (CMRS) inspection of the upcoming Heritage line corridor of Delhi Metro on Tuesday resulted in long queues and crowded trains on the Violet Line as services were briefly affected in that section.

The CMRS started the inspection in the morning which continued till evening.

During that period, services between the Central Secretariat and Mandi House stations were operated on a single line, leading to a slowing down of train movement.
According to the routine metro commuters of this line, the metro were services were affected entire day and commuters had to wait for more than 30 minutes while interchanging or boarding another train.

""I use this route to go my office from Jasola to ITO and it will take nearly 30 minutes to reach ITO but on Tuesday the services were delayed and it took me 45 minutes to reach my destination," said one such commuter" said one such commuter, Sanjay Sharma.

"The report of the CMRS inspection is awaited. Upon receiving the report and clearance from CMRS, DMRC will try to open this section at the earliest," said DMRC's spokesman.

He also stated that they are yet to finalise a date for the opening.

"The decision will be taken after the inspection clearance," he added. The new section is an extension of the Violet line that connects Faridabad to ITO at present.
Trial runs began on the ITO-Kashmere Gate section of Delhi Metro's violet line on August 10, 2016.

This entirely underground section will comprise of four stations – Delhi Gate, Jama Masjid, Lal Quila and Kashmere Gate.

The Kashmere Gate station will become the first ever interchange facility of the Delhi Metro system to provide interconnectivity between three corridors of the network (violet line with red and yellow lines).
