DCW to establish a transgender cell: Swati Maliwal
NEW DELHI: Delhi Commission for Women to set up a transgender cell announced its chairperson Swati Maliwal on Wednesday. DCW Chief Swati Maliwal conducted a march in old and central Delhi on the 11th day of her Mahila Suraksha Padyatra. While in Paharganj area, she walked along with transgenders and hundreds of volunteers.
DCW Chief Swati Maliwal upon hearing the varied issues faced by the community announced the formation of a special cell for transgenders in the commission. The cell shall focus on complaints of abuse and discrimination by transgendered and shall make efforts to reach out to the community to create awareness of their rights. "Transgenders suffer terribly in our country. They are laughed at, mocked, abused and experience a lot of physical and sexual violence. The Commission shall make all efforts to help them through its Transgender Cell," she said.
