DCW chief meets LG on increasing crime against women

New Delhi: Chairperson of Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) Swati Maliwal on Thursday met the L-G over increasing crime against women in the Capital. DCW Chief requested him to implement the ordinance which was passed by Central Govt after 10 days of Maliwal's hunger strike. DCW in a press release stated that the chairperson informed him that until police resources are increased and additional fast-track courts are created, the ordinance shall only remain on paper. She appealed to him to ensure that adequate resources are immediately created to enable swiftness and certainty of justice. the L-G gave a positive response and stated that he will work towards ensuring the same.
Recently, Swati Maliwal held an indefinite hunger strike demanding stricter provisions to be enacted for punishment for rape of minor at Rajghat here. The DCW Chief also launched a nationwide campaign against child sexual violence named Rape Roko. The first month of New Year 2018 witnessed more than 250 cases related to crime against women (CAW) in the national Capital. Delhi Police claimed that it has arrested more than 290 accused in the case.
The Delhi Police data accessed by the Millennium Post claimed that more than 100 cases of rape were registered in January in which 90 cases were worked out and 108 people were arrested. In 2017, more than 140 cases were reported in the same month and 118 persons were nabbed. Number of cases regarding the assault on women with intent to outrage her modesty were 132 in January. Police worked out more than 100 cases and arrested 132 accused.
