DCPCR writes to DMs to inspect resources, facilities in child care institutions

New Delhi: In a bid to save the most vulnerable children of society, the Delhi Commission for Protection of Child Rights (DCPCR) has written to District Magistrates to inspect the availability of resources and facilities for children living in child care institutions (CCIs).

The letter copy accessed by the Millennium Post reads, "As the country gears up itself against the pandemic of COVID-19, the underprivileged face the brunt of the situation. Children are inevitably the most vulnerable group and it is important their needs are met and their health and nutrition are not compromised in any way."

"It is requested that a visit is made to all the child shelter homes in your (DMs) districts to inspect the availability of resources and facilities for the children living in these places. If there is a need for any essentials, the same should be provided to the children at the earliest. The commission seeks an action taken report at the earliest," said Ranjana Prasad, member DCPCR, in her letter.

The DCPCR member said that there are around 110 CCIs in Delhi where most vulnerable children, who need more care and protection, live. "We have also distributed sanitary napkins, soaps and masks to girl shelter homes. Our priority is to ensure that no children remain hungry," Prasad said.

Meanwhile, the child rights body has also sent a mail

to the District Child Protection Unit (DCPU) in which they have attached links of educational radio programmes, activity books for children of different age group living in CCIs.

"During the lockdown, children can't play outdoors so we have shared some links with DCPU and told them to share with CCIs so that children living there can spend quality time," DCPCR member Rita Singh said, adding that they are trying to reach out more children during the vulnerable situation.
