Days after release from jail, gangster held for killing rival

New Delhi: Just a month after completing his seven-year prison sentence, a 27-year-old man was arrested from Vipin Garden area of Uttam Nagar for the murder of a rival gang member, police said on Wednesday.

Cops said that the accused Koshar had been released from prison on October 3, but he did not keep himself away from crime, as he could not stand that the rival gang had gained the upper hand in Uttam Nagar area in his absence.

They added that he was arrested from Vipin Garden area on Tuesday.

According to investigators, on the intervening night of November 7 and 8, Koshar and his associates shot dead rival gangster Azaad and injured his associate Javed in Hastsal Road area of Uttam Nagar.

Javed filed a complainant with police, stating that Koshar, who he was acquainted with, had fired on him and his friend Azaad after an argument.

After investigation, cops revealed that on the day of the incident, the accused was standing on the road with few boys of the area and talking loudly and making a scene.

Azaad, a resident of the area, objected to Koshar's tone and refused to accept his supremacy in the area.

"The victims Azaad and Javed are deemed as associates of Mohammad Gauri, another gang leader in the area. Koshar started the argument with Azaad and after a few minutes, he shot dead Azaad and injured his friend Javed," police said on Wednesday.

The accused was arrested by a team of Special Staff of Dwarka district police.

Cops said that Koshar revealed during interrogation that he had fallen into bad company in his adolescence and began consuming liquor.

However, he never had enough pocket money to fund his liquor addiction and his girlfriends reportedly taunted him for being poor, cops said.

To earn quick money and live an extravagant live, Koshar soon entered the criminal world and started earning money off street crimes.

"He has also been sentenced tor imprisonment for seven years in a robbery case at Moti Nagar police station in 2012 and was released from jail on October 3 this year after completing his jail term," a police official said.
