Daily wager loses daughter in accident, donates her eyes

New Delhi: When most educated people often hesitate to donate organs after the demise of their loved ones, a daily wager in Delhi has set an unprecedented example when he decided to donate his 8-year-old daughter's eyes after she died in a tragic road accident in Delhi's Fatehpur Beri.

Komal, a class third student in a Nagar Nigam school was crossing the road after the school got over on Wednesday at around 1:10 pm and was mowed down by a speeding Scorpio. However, like in most hit-and-run cases where the drivers escape leaving the injured in a pool of blood, the Scorpio driver Devender Sagar showed a human face and rushed the girl to the hospital. However, she was declared brought dead at AIIMS Trauma centre.

When the family of the girl was informed, the father rushed to the hospital. Instead of breaking down by the tragic loss, the daily wager, who works as a marble artisan wiped his tears and decided to donate the eyes of his daughter.

"My daughter couldn't be brought back now, but I will make sure that the world is seen by someone else through my daughter's eyes. That is why I decided to donate her eyes," said a calm and composed Ramdeen, who resides in a nearby village Jonapur in South Delhi.

The father's decision is supposed to bring encouragement and awareness regaarding organ donation. The fact that he is illiterate amplifies the noble act.

The man behind the wheels of the Scorpio who knew he would certainly be booked under various charges of IPC for negligent driving also did his part when instead of fleeing, decided to rush the girl child to the hospital.

"I tried to avert the accident but couldn't, now I don't care if the cops book me, but at least I tried saving the girl. Unfortunately, she couldn't survive".

In 24 hours South Delhi witnessed two fatal accidents in which two have succumbed to injuries. In another fatal accident, at Greater Kailash 2, a woman identified as Krishna Singla succumbed to injuries in a car accident on Tuesday night. The family was returning from the marriage of their son.
