Crime Branch nabs man for possessing 270 kg of marijuana

NEW DELHI: Cracking down on narcotics cartels, the Inter-border Gangs Investigation Squad of Delhi Police Crime Branch on Friday said it arrested a major distributor of marijuana in the Capital.
Police recovered 270 kg of marijuana from the possession of the accused, identified as 28-year-old Dharamveer Kumar, a resident of Najafgarh.
The Crime Branch received a tip-off that a marijuana distributor, who supplied the contraband to wholesalers in Delhi, would come near Dichao Depot in a Mahindra Champion vehicle.
The Crime Branch team laid a trap and successfully apprehended Kumar at the spot after spotting his vehicle loaded. During search, the vehicle was found to be loaded with 270.4 kg of marijuana.
Accordingly, a case under NDPS Act was registered and the accused was arrested.
"Interrogation revealed that Kumar belongs to a lower middle-class family residing in Patna. He was a brilliant student and passed Class XII with first division. However, due to financial constraints, he came to Delhi in 2012 in search of livelihood and started working as a waiter in banquet halls and farmhouses in south west Delhi and Dwarka. It was there during this time that he came in contact with drug peddlers," said Bhism Singh, DCP (Crime Branch).
Kumar started working as a ganja distributor for one Naresh, whom had worked as a waiter with him in farmhouses. "Naresh taught him the basic lessons of this illegal trade and instructed him not to keep many cell phones during drug the peddling in order to avoid being caught," the DCP said.
