Couple tries to commit suicide in Gzb; girl dies, boy critical

Ghaziabad: A 22-year-old girl died while her fiance is critical after the couple swallowed poison inside a hotel room in Bajariya area of Ghaziabad on early Friday morning. Police official said that the couple was depressed after their marriage date was changed due to some dispute between the families.

According to police, the incident took place inside a room at hotel Shubham in Bajariya railway station road area.

The deceased girl, identified as Pooja, a native of Laxmi Nagar area of Delhi , who was engaged to Subodh (25), resident of Noor Nagar in Sihani gate area of Ghaziabad.

Their families were agreed on their marriage but because of some reason, the marriage date got postponed due to which the couple decided to take the extreme step.

Shlok Kumar, Superintendent of Police, Ghaziabad said that after the marriage got delayed Subodh's father denied for the marriage and he had also broken the engagement.

Police said that the couple was very sad after their marriage got broke up.

"Both of them wanted to get marry at all cost. On Thursday afternoon, Subodh had gone Delhi to meet Pooja and both of them had told Pooja's family members that they are going to temple but none of them returned their home," said Kumar.

The officer further said that the couple had checked in to the hotel at around 1:30 am on Friday and swallowed poison inside the hotel room.

"The couple checked in to the hotel room late in night. In the morning, when they didn't open the door even after several attempts, the hotel staffers informed police following which a team was sent to the spot. Police broke open the door and found the couple lying unconscious on bed. They were immediately hospitalized to a private hospital where Pooja was declared brought dead while Subodh is very critical," added Kumar.

Police officials said that they received no complaint in the matter, however, necessary investigations are being followed.
