Couple in live-in relationship found dead in Gr Noida flat

Greater Noida: The bodies of young couple were found hanging from the ceiling fan of their house in Omicron-3 sector of Greater Noida, police said on Thursday morning.

Cops added that the deceased have been identified as Gaurav Dhama (21) and Preeti Chepyana.

Both the victims were already married to some other persons, but were in a live-in relationship with each other.

Their bodies were found in their rented house in Lotus Welfare society of Omicron-3.

According to police, the bodies were first spotted on Wednesday night by a neighbor who had gone to their house to get a gas cylinder.

He immediately informed Gaurav's father, who lives in Baghpat village. The father reached Greater Noida late at night and conveyed the information to police.

"Following the information conveyed, a police team reached the spot and took the bodies into custody. They were sent for post-mortem, reports of which are awaited," said Vineet Jaiswal, Superintendent of Police (Rural), Gautam Buddh Nagar.

Police said that upon investigating the matter, it came to light that both of them were already married.

"Gaurav had got married to one Chanchal, around nine months ago, but got divorced from her few days ago. Preeti, a native of Suntur village under Ecotech-1 area of Greater Noida, was married to Pradeep and had two children. She went missing from home on October 16 and a missing complaint in this regard was also lodged by her husband," a senior police officer said.

The officer further said that Gaurav had also posted pictures of his marriage certificate, divorce agreement and marriage photographs on his social media account on October 16.

Meanwhile, Gaurav's family members alleged that Preeti's family members killed the couple after they came to know about their live-in relationship, and hanged their bodies to the ceiling fan later to make it look like suicide.

"Prima facie, it appears that both of them have committed suicide. However, we are not ruling out the possibility of murder and are investigating covering all the possible angles in the case," Jaiswal added.
