Condition of Matua matriarch Binapani Devi deteriorates
Kolkata: Binapani Devi, the 102-year-old matriarch of the Matua community who had been admitted to Jawaharlal Nehru Memorial Hospital (JNMH) in Kalyani for the past few days, was taken to SSKM Hospital on Sunday evening, as her condition deteriorated.
She was undergoing treatment at JNMH since the evening of February 21. Some of her family members along with a doctor had rushed her to the hospital with fever and lung infection. She had been undergoing treatment at a special cabin inside the female ward of the hospital. On the next day, senior ministers Partha Chatterjee and Jyotipriya Mallick visited the hospital to see her.
According to sources in JNMH, she has been suffering from various age related ailments and acute lung infection. She had been kept under close observation for the past few days. A medical team comprising 12 doctors was also formed for her treatment.
