Chhawla bank dacoity: Two 19-year-olds held, four at large

New Delhi: Two 19-year-old boys have been arrested in connection with the armed dacoity in Chhawla village of Dwarka district, while more four are still on the run.

Delhi Police on Saturday said they arrested Sachin and Parvesh from Murthal near Sonipat for the armed heist in which a cashier was shot dead on Friday afternoon. After the dacoity, the armed men had fled on bikes, which was caught in CCTV footage.

"Within 12 hours of the incident, our team made a breakthrough and arrested two accused. We have identified the other accused and several places in Delhi and Haryana are being raided. The bikes they used have also been seized, along with some cash and a weapon," said Anto Alphonse, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Dwarka).

Police teams analysed the 100-second CCTV footage at the bank, during which the entire dacoity unfolded. Six masked men were seen snatching the gun of the bank security guard and shooting the cashier.

Cops also scanned CCTV footage of the area adjoining the bank prior to the incident and managed to identify the accused, where their faces were uncovered. They added that the accused who actually shot the cashier Santosh Kumar, a former Army man, is still at large.

Using technical and human intelligence, cops first zeroed in on and arrested Sachin, following which Parvesh was also nabbed. Both youth are residents of Sonipat.
