Chaos among homebuyers as GNIDA declares buildings built in Shahberi unsafe

Greater Noida: There is chaos among the homebuyers of Shahberi area in Greater Noida as they are confused over the future of their homes after Greater Noida authority declared all the buildings in the area are unsafe for living and they might get demolished, the district magistrate Gautam Buddh Nagar, on Wednesday, said that an audit of all the buildings is being done by IIT Delhi in order to make sure how safe these buildings are.

B N Singh, DM, Gautam Buddh Nagar said a technical audit to check safety of all the buildings built in Shahberi area has been done by IIT Delhi.

"We have sought a report in the matter which will be submitted within a month or two. Once the report is submitted, we will decide the future of these buildings," said Singh.

The DM further appealed to the residents to maintain peace and co-operate with the administration as they will ensure that the buyers are nowhere effected by any decision taken up against these illegal structures.

"As of now we have imposed NSA on two builders who have constructed the most number of flats in the area. Such actions will be continued in future also and we are conducting survey in the area. The administration will ensure that the buyers remain no where affected while the properties that belong to builders will be attached," added Singh.

As per a senior administrative officer, Shahberi was denotified in 2011 and three years later, the high court had ordered a status quo.

This means any construction in the area is illegal and none of the buildings has their layout plans approved.

All such illegal constructions will eventually have to be demolished.

The administration has advised people to refrain themselves from buying flats that are built in such illegally buildings which are available at cheaper rates and lucrative offers.

They have warned that people living in buildings that are built illegally will be responsible for any action taken by the administration.
