Centre using police as 'political tool', says Sanjay Singh

NEW DELHI: Aam Aadmi Party Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Singh launched a scathing attack on BJP-ruled Centre over using Delhi Police as a "political tool" and turning it into a "spineless body with zero conscience, whose credibility has been torn to shreds by its political masters."

Singh's comments came after Delhi Police registered FIRs against Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, AAP MLA Amanatullah Khan and Delhi BJP chief Manoj Tiwari in the scuffle that occurred during inauguration of the Signature Bridge.

He alleged that the Narendra Modi government, in its greed to crush the AAP, has converted the Delhi Police into a butt of jokes.

"The Modi government is determined to convert Delhi Police into a completely unprofessional force, which will be unleashed on political rivals who dare to oppose the Modi government's anti-people and pro-corporate agenda," the AAP MP said.

"What can be more shameful that the Delhi Police, whose own officers were assaulted and held by their collars by Tiwari in full public view in presence of media cameras, is afraid to book this hoodlum for a serious cognisable crime committed against uniformed police officers on duty," Singh further said.

On Friday, AAP Rajya Sabha member ND Gupta had filed a written complaint with police against Tiwari on charges of inciting violence at the inauguration of the Signature Bridge in Wazirabad. A Delhi government official said the complaint was filed following Delhi Police's failure to register an FIR against Tiwari for putting the lives of Kejriwal and his deputy Manish Sisodia at risk.
