Burgler came from U'khand to target bungalows located in posh colonies

New Delhi: The 40-year-old Mohammad Akram used to come to Delhi from Uttarakhand only to commit burglaries at the bungalows situated in Maharani Bagh, Safdarjung and other posh localities of South and South-East Delhi. He had committed more than 25 similar types of night burglaries mainly in these areas but on September 27 his luck ran out and he was arrested from Seelampur area. Police have also arrested the receiver of stolen articles identified as Sheikh Khalid Mahmood (41) from Lajpat Nagar area. With the arrest of accused persons, stolen diamond jewellery worth more than Rs 10 lakh has been recovered.

According to police, Akram was fond of lavish lifestyle and used to spend money on branded clothes and expensive accessories. "He is very cunning and vicious. He knew how police can trace the culprit. Accused used to cover his face and wear gloves while committing burglaries," police said. He further added that the accused used to work individually and never used any vehicle or mobile phone so that he could not be traced by the police.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (south-east) Chinmoy Biswal said that he used to dispose the stolen jewellery soon after committing burglary. Accused was arrested in 2007 for the first time. "Akram is super night burglar and he is proficient in climbing high walls and running fast," DCP Biswal said.
