Brothers-in-law held for minor widow's murder

New Delhi: On July 16, brothers Amit and Anil, accompanied by a juvenile, visited their minor sister-in-law's maternal house in Badarpur's Tajpur Pahari area.

The family of the 16-year-old girl took it to be a routine visit by her in-laws, as she had been staying with her parents after the suicide of her husband Ayush. Little did they expect that Amit and Anil, Ayush's siblings, would murder the girl in her own home.

On Saturday, a police team formed under the supervision of Badarpur SHO Suhaib Farooqui arrested the siblings and apprehended the juvenile from South Extension, who were at large since the murder.

Cops said that raids had been made at the residence of accused persons at Faridabad, but they had gone absconding. Eventually, their efforts bore fruit on Saturday.

"During sustained interrogation, both accused disclosed they were upset with their brother's suicide and annoyed that even after his death the girl did not return to her in-laws' house. Thus, they planned to kill their brother's wife," said DCP (South East) Chinmoy Biswal.

Cops said that on July 16, while Anil and the juvenile engaged the family members in conversation at their home, Amit sneaked upstairs on the pretext of having a word with the widowed minor.

However, he took out a knife and stabbed the girl multiple times. By the time her family came to her help, the trio fled, leaving her in a pool of blood.

Based on revelations of the accused, their blood-stained clothes and the knife used to stab the girl were recovered.
