Autos to spread awareness on vector-borne diseases

New Delhi: The South Delhi Municipal Corporation (SDMC) on Wednesday launched autorickshaws in the city, equipped with Public Address systems that will disseminate messages of preventing and controlling the problem of vector-borne diseases. The autorickshaws were flagged off by SDMC Mayor Sunita Kangra, who said that vector-borne diseases have been spread for so long because of lack of information and now the only way to control such diseases is to not be careless or ignorant.

Mayor Kangra said that the breeding of Aedes mosquito takes place in stagnant clean water and that if one cleans and dries water tanks, coolers, flower pots and utensils to store water at least once a week then it becomes easy to stop breeding. Adding that a behavioural change is required to tackle vector-borne diseases, she said that the fight against disease-spreading mosquitoes can be easily won if one can remain vigilant and careful.

Standing Committee chairperson, Bhupender Gupta, who was also at the event said that these autorickshaws with PAs will roam all the wards in SDMC and shout out messages on how to prevent the spread of vector-borne diseases, to general public.
