Astrologer among two men arrested for stealing luxury cars

New Delhi: South Delhi Police on Saturday said they have busted a gang of auto-lifters, with the arrest of 45-year-old man and an astrologer who used to receive the stolen cars.
Police claimed that the accused had stolen luxury cars of different brands such as BMW 5-Series and Audi Q-3, worth over Rs one crore.
According to police, the accused were identified as the car thief Joy Vig, a resident of Faridabad, and 41-year-old astrologer Nishit Sastri, who would receive the cars.
Police claimed that Vig was arrested on February 20 near Siri Fort red light.
Based on his information, Sastri was soon tracked down and arrested from Vrindavan in Uttar Pradesh.
A police team led by Inspector Satish Sharma, station house officer, Hauz Khas police station, and supervision by Rajesh Nathani, ACP, Hauz Khas, made the arrests,
Deputy Commissioner of Police (South) Romil Baaniya stated that Vig used to work as a taxi driver and kept an eye on fancy cars driven by other drivers.
He would lure drivers of high-end cars by promising them jobs with a higher salary and after gaining their confidence, would ask them for a test drive of the luxury car, and then flee away with the car as well as its original key.
"Joy Vig used to sell cars to Nishit Sastri, who, after using them, sold them further by replacing their documents and the original key across India, thus creating minimum suspicion in the minds of the buyer. Their main area of operation was Delhi-NCR,'' said the DCP.
Sastri, an astrologer-cum-palmist by profession, is also an MBA degree holder.
He has made appearances on many TV shows as an astrologer on some news and religious channels.
Sastri also has been involved in property dealing and used to buy luxury stolen cars from Vig to make an good impression on his clients.
Apart from the Audi and BMW cars, police also recovered a Volkswagen Vento and Toyota Innova Crysta from the accused men.
