Army major's wife found dead in south west Delhi

New Delhi: The wife of an Indian Army major was found dead on Saturday with her throat slit on a street at Brar Square in south west Delhi just near the cantonment area.

Police said the culprit tried to give the murder the pretense of a hit and run, through cops believe the woman was first murdered and then run over.

Cops said the 35-year-old victim had left home on Saturday morning for a physiotherapy session at Base Hospital in Delhi Cantonment, adding she was found dead half-an-hour later.

An official vehicle assigned to the Major dropped her outside the hospital. "When the driver went to pick her up, he was told that the woman had not turned up for the physiotherapy session," police said.

Soon, cops got a call from passersby about a body on the road. When they reached the spot, they found to be the same woman, with her throat slit. The major was also immediately informed, police added.

"A PCR call was received around 1.30 p.m in Narayana about the accident of a woman. A police team went to the location. Initially, it looked like an accident. On closer inspection the body, it was found to be a murder case. After investigation, the deceased was identified to be the 35-year-old wife of a Major," an investigator said.

"We have strong clues about the suspect, but there evidence of robbery or any sexual assault. Investigation is being conducted from all angles," said Deputy Commissioner of Police (West) Vijay Kumar.

The woman's body had skid marks, to make it appear as if she had been mowed down by a vehicle.

Cops further said that the woman was last seen taking a lift from outside the hospital, after she was dropped outside by the driver.

"We received a call for an accident, but later found injuries on her neck. We have registered a murder case and have solid clues about the accused. Several teams have been made to investigate and arrest the accused," Kumar said.

The body has been sent for post-mortem and cops are analysing calls made from and received in the woman's mobile phone. Cops suspect that the killer is known to the victim.
