AAP leaders meet Delhi top cop, demand FIR against Manoj Tiwari

NEW DELHI: AAP Rajya Sabha member ND Gupta on Friday filed a written complaint with the police against BJP's Delhi chief Manoj Tiwari on charges of inciting violence at the inauguration of the Signature Bridge.

A Delhi government official said the complaint was filed following the Delhi Police's failure to register an FIR against Tiwari for putting the lives of Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and his Deputy CM Manish Sisodia at risk.

"The complaint has been filed by Gupta as an eyewitness following the refusal of Delhi Police and Delhi government officers to file a police complaint despite cognizable offences having been committed in front of them," the official said.

Ahead of the inauguration of the Signature Bridge on November 4, BJP and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) activists clashed, with Manoj Tiwari attacking AAP workers and reportedly punching a policeman who intervened.

The AAP alleged that plastic bottles were hurled at the stage where Kejriwal and Sisodia were seated.

"The police was duty bound to register an FIR against Manoj Tiwari and his hoodlums who committed this serious cognizable offence against police officers on duty ... but did not," said Gupta in his complaint to the Delhi Police Commissioner Amulya Patnaik.

He requested the Commissioner to register an FIR and provide a written copy.
