70-yr-old hangs himself to death at bridge in east Delhi's Badarpur

New Delhi: Delhi Police said that a 70-year-old man committed suicide on Wednesday by hanging himself from a rope at a bridge located in south east Delhi's Badarpur, adding that depression might have been the cause.

Police said that a PCR call was received at Badarpur police station about a person's body found hanging on the Agra Canal Bridge at Molarband Extension. Cops soon reached the spot and found the body of a man, aged around 70, hanging from a rope on the bridge.

During enquiry, the victim was identified as Phenku Singh, who lived with his nephews in Badarpur.

Cops said Singh had no other family member and was suffering from a disease. One of his nephews said Singh was in depression and was taking treatment for the disease.

"No foul play has been found during the local enquiry. Action is being taken under section 174 of the Criminal Procedure Code is being taken," police said.
