693 private buses for smooth transportation

New Delhi: In a bid to make the Odd-Even implementation smoother for the residents of the city, the Delhi government puts 693 private buses on roads on Tuesday as compared to 643 buses on Monday — an increase of 50 more buses. Along with private buses, there were 1,857 cluster buses on Tuesday (between 8 am to 2 pm) which saw a marginal increase from Monday when there were 1,849 cluster buses. While the Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) buses saw a dip with Tuesday reporting 3,675 buses on the road while Monday had 3,681 buses functioning. Overall there was an increase in number of public transport buses with Monday showing 6,173 total buses and Tuesday reporting 6,219.

The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) did 58,94,506 journeys on first day of Odd-Even. The daily average journey made by the metro from October 28 to November 1 was 50.13 lakh. Whereas Monday saw 58.36 lakh journeys. This shows an increase in frequency of trips done by the DMRC in order to accommodate the rise in number of commuters. Delhi Metro achieved record number of journeys on September 22 with 62.99 lakh corridors being used by passengers to reach their destination

Beginning from Monday, 2,000 volunteers, 465 teams of Delhi traffic police, revenue, and transport departments were deployed on Monday to create awareness about the scheme. 6,000 buses,

including private buses were also put into service to deal with the additional number of commuters.

Under the scheme, odd-numbered private cars will ply on odd dates and those with even number plates will ply on even days, the number of vehicles have take a huge hit with metro increasing its

frequency of trips in a day to maintain smooth transportation for people.
