25.2 kg Ephedrine seized, Nigerian held

NEW DELHI: In yet another crackdown on international drug trafficking syndicate operating in India, Delhi Zonal Unit, NCB arrested a Nigerian national with 25.2 kg of Ephedrine.

Based on tip-off received from a reliable source that one Nigerian national is involved in trafficking of the drug, officers of Delhi Zonal Unit, Narcotics Control Bureau placed surveillance in the area. Information further developed and his house was raided by the team. While searching the house, 25.2 kg ephedrine, a control substance under NDPA act, concealed under the thread rolls was recovered. The African international was also under the radar of the agency for his involvement in another case of drug trafficking booked earlier this year.

"Preliminary investigation revealed that he came to India in the year 2010 and overstayed in Delhi without valid documents. He also revealed that he used to procure this substance from his associates in the city and then smuggle the drug to his homeland and other African countries with the help of African carriers for preparation of Amphetamine Types of Substances (ATS)," said Madho Singh, Zonal Director NCB.

The agency is now on the lookout for other similar persons involved in such syndicates based in India. In addition to this, the concerned foreign authorities are also being approached.
