Greater Noida: A 23-year-old BSc student allegedly committed suicide by hanging herself with the ceiling fan of her paying guest (PG) room in sector 39 of Noida, on Saturday night. Police said that the girl was under mental stress as she kept on failing in her mathematics examination for past three years.

Aradhna, originally from Chandoli district of Haryana, was a third year BSc student at Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) in Varanasi.

"On Saturday night, when Aradhna's room mate came to her room, she found the door locked from inside. After several attempts to get the door opened, she called the attendants who broke open the door and found her hanging with the ceiling fan. Police teams were rushed to the spot when the information was conveyed to us and took the body into custody and was later sent for post mortem" the officer added.

Meanwhile police are yet to register a case in the matter as no complaint has been received so far. "Prima facie it came to light that the girl was depressed over her getting failed in her examinations but are not ruling out possibility of any love affair behind the incident" the officer said
