2 held in Civil Lines snatching incident

New Delhi: The Delhi Police on Sunday said that they have arrested 21-year-old man and his associate for committing snatching with a woman in North Delhi's Civil Lines area.

The accused persons were arrested with the help of CCTV footage in Sonipat area. Police identified the accused persons as Gaurav and Badal. Rs 56,000 cash, two high-end mobile phones, documents, wrist watch snatched from the victim and scooty used in the crime.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (North) Monika Bharadwaj said that on October 12, complainant Damyanti Modi reported that at about 7 am she reached Gujarati Samaj, while she was getting down from the TSR two persons came on a white scooty, snatched her purse.

The incident happened soon after the woman reached Delhi from Amritsar in the morning. She had a flight to Ahmedabad in the evening. on her statement, the case under appropriate sections of IPC was registered at Civil Lines police station.

DCP North said that the team focused on checking and collecting CCTV footages, scrutinizing dossiers of criminals having similar modus operandi, tasking of informers, collection of inputs, apprehension and interrogation of known robbers and snatchers, verification of jail bail release.

"One CCTV footage of the accused was found wherein two boys of age about 20-25, were seen with the purse on a white scooty," said DCP

North.

The footage was shown to secret informers and the accused persons were identified as Gaurav and his associate Badal. Raids were conducted at their hideouts and accused Gaurav was arrested from Sonepat and from his possession snatched items were recovered.

Further, the vehicle used in the offence was recovered from Sultanpuri area from the house of the Gaurav's aunt . Later the other accused Badal was nabbed.

Police said Gaurav was previously involved in a fight and it is being checked if he has any other cases against him. They were not wearing helmets. During interrogation, Gaurav told police that he had spotted the victim in an auto-rickshaw, a kilometre before targeting her, the officer said.

Gaurav is a resident of Sadar Bazar in Delhi but sometimes stayed in Nabi Karim here, police said.
