2 held for snatching Metropolitan Magistrate's phone

New Delhi: The Delhi Police on Wednesday said that they have arrested two people from Bharat Nagar area for snatching the mobile phone of a Metropolitan Magistrate (MM) in the district on Monday night.

Apart from the snatchers, the city police also nabbed two receivers of the stolen property. Police identified the accused as Karan (18) and Raheem (19) both lives in North West Delhi. The technical analysis helped police in cracking the case.

"We have recovered the snatched Apple iPhone from Bharat Nagar area," police said.

According to police, on Monday night when the Metropolitan Magistrate was talking on his phone outside his house in north Delhi's Kamla Nagar when two men on a scooty snatched his phone. The magistrate informed the police about the incident.

Police said that the accused was nabbed after he was captured on the CCTV camera. DCP (North West) Vijayanta Arya said that at the time of incident Karan was driving the scooty while the co-accused Raheem (pillion rider) has snatched the mobile phone.

"We have recovered the stolen mobile phone and scooty," added DCP North West. The accused were roaming around the area after getting the right opportunity they snatched the phone. The city police scanned the CCTV footage of few areas connecting to Civil Lines.

"During technical analysis, the last location of the phone was detected and the search was made in North West Delhi 's Bharat Nagar area which led to their arrest," an officer said.

The accused had sold the phone to two receivers named Durga Prasad (26) and Muzammil Ahmad (24). They were later arrested.

"Both the snatchers had no previous involvement. The probe is also going on," said an official.

Adding further, the investigator said that Rs 8,000 was also recovered from the possession of the accused person.
