2 engineering students arrested for selling marijuana near the campus

Greater Noida: Two first-year engineering students of a private university have been arrested by police for allegedly selling marijuana from a tempo stand near their college campus in Knowledge Park area of Greater Noida. The police have seized 650 grams of weed from the possession of both the students.

According to police, the arrested youths have been identified as Anuj Kumar Singh, a native of Aligarh district, and Akshat Kumar, a native of Patna district in Bihar.

Cops said that their families live in their home towns while the students have recently shifted to Greater Noida after joining the engineering programme. One of the youth lived at a rented flat in sector Omicron-3 while the other lived at a private hostel close to the college in Knowledge Park area of Greater Noida.

"Acting on a tip-off, a PCR team was sent to the spot and both the youth were arrested red-handed with around 650 grams of weed from a tempo stand near the college campus at Pari Chowk," said Arvind Pathak, station house officer of Knowledge Park police station.

The officer further said that the youth used to sell weed to earn pocket money.

"During interrogations, both the youth told the police that they used to sell weed to make a little extra money. The two knew each other. We are trying to find the place from where they sourced the marijuana. They have been booked under Section 8/20 of the Narcotics Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act and were sent to jail on Friday," Pathak added.

A month earlier, two security guards at Amity University in Greater Noida were arrested by police for possessing cannabis and selling them to students and others in the Knowledge Park area. Police recovered around 2.5 kilograms of cannabis from their possession.
