The Delhi Police on Friday arrested an Assistant <g data-gr-id="20">Sub-Inspector,</g> after a 23-year-old woman alleged that he had sexually assaulted her in North-west Delhi’s Rani Bagh area. A case has been registered against the official.

According to a source, the Delhi Police official is posted at Punjabi Bagh police station in West Delhi. He frequently visited his friend's house at Rani Bagh, where the woman works as a domestic help.

On July 9 evening, the ASI allegedly joined his friend over drinks and later decided to retire to his residence. The police official's friend, then, asked the domestic help to escort the police official to a guest room, said the source.

On reaching the guest room, the official allegedly bolted the door from inside and sexually assaulted the victim, the source said.

When the medical report of the victim confirmed sexual assault, the police official was arrested and
produced before a court, which sent him to judicial custody. The source said police are investigating the case from various angles. They are likely to question the ASI’s friend too.
