A Public Relations Officer of the Defence Ministry, who recently met with a road accident, on Wednesday died at a hospital in Chennai.

Condoling the death of 52-year-old Natesan Andavan, Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar said he “was a professional communicator who excelled in every aspect of journalism and public relations. He made a definite impact among the media fraternity. My heart goes out to the bereaved family at this critical moment in their lives.”

Andavan this morning succumbed to the grievous injury he had suffered in the accident on Monday when an auto-rickshaw hit him while he was crossing the road in Chennai.

According to defence sources, Andavan was crossing the road after collecting the report of a routine medical check-up when an auto hit him. “He fell on the road... A biker then ran over him. He was quickly taken to hospital but passed away on Wednesday morning,” the sources said.
