Dakhshineshwar skywalk project to begin soon

On Tuesday, ministers Jyotipriya Mondal and Bratya Basu stated that the construction of Dakhshineshwar skywalk project will start very soon. “ The project will start only after the shopkeepers are provided relocation facilities”, stated Jyotipriya.

On the behest of Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, the Home Secretary along with senior police officers on Saturday inspected the proposed area for the construction of the skywalk where they conducted a meeting with the chairman of Kamarhati Municipality, Gopal Saha and the Secretary of the board of trustees of Dakhshineshwar temple.

In order to ease the traffic congestion in the area, the Chief Minister had proposed the construction of the skywalk but due to the presence of various shops which would have to be demolished for the work to start, the project had come to a standstill.  The shopkeepers even lodged a case against the project in court.

On September 23, Minister of Municipal Affairs, Minister of panchayat and rural development, the Home Secretary, Kolkata DGP and the temple administrators had a meeting with the Chief Minister where it was decided that the work of the skywalk will begin only after the shopkeepers and their shops are relocated. It was also stated that the work would be completed in 18 months.
