Dacoity takes place in three houses in Katwa

Three incidents of dacoity took place in the same area of Purbapara village in Katwa on Wednesday night. The incident triggered some tension in the village. Police said that a gang of 15 dacoits, dividing themselves in three teams, looted three households of valuables worth nearly Rs 6 lakhs and hard cash of Rs 7 lakh.

The dacoits broke into the houses of Abdul Alim, Lufter Seikh and Asfar Seikh and looted them at gun point. They threatened the people with dire consequences if they raised an alarm and carried out the operation for nearly an hour.

The miscreants hurled bombs in the area while fleeing the spot after committing the crime. After being informed police reached the spot and started an investigation.

The investigating officer’s suspect that some person who is well acquainted with the family members and had prior knowledge about the valuables kept in the houses is involved in the dacoity. Police are interrogating the domestic helps of the houses and are also conducting raids at various places in search of the dacoits who were believed to have been operating from the district, preliminary investigation reveals. They are yet to arrest anybody in this connection so far.

The local people have alleged that due to several other incidents of dacoity in the area they had demanded police patrolling in the area but no action was taken by the police. The people said that if there was enough vigilance in the area such incidents could have been prevented.
