Cumberbatch bags world’s sexiest male title

 Benedict Cumberbatch has an extra bit of ‘swagger’ today after being named the world’s sexiest male film star. 

A poll of 50,000 film fans by Empire Online resulted in Cumberbatch seeing off competition from Superman star Henry Cavill, American heartthrob Ryan Gosling and perennial hot stuff Brad Pitt.

In an interview with Radio Times last year, Cumberbatch said of his new sex symbol status, ‘It puts a bit of spring in your step. It’s nice, you swagger a little bit, it’s enjoyable. I’ve punched well above my weight this year... I find it hysterically funny... it’s a giggle. I wield it with a massive smile.’

James Bond star Daniel Craig placed at number 24 in the poll, with Tom Hardy in 17th place and Johnny Depp at 13th. Cumberbatch, best known for his role in BBC detective drama Sherlock, will soon be back on the big screen in a new form– voicing the dragon Smaug in The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug. Meanwhile, fellow British star Emma Watson will also be celebrating, having scooped world’s sexiest female.
