Cricket betting racket busted

A cricket betting racket active during the IPL 2012 match between Delhi Daredevils and Kolkata Knight Riders was busted on Tuesday. Three persons were arrested in this regard.

On Monday, Anti-Auto Theft Squad/South-East District tipped off the Delhi Police about a betting racket being operated during IPL matches. Based on that, the Delhi Police conducted a raid and the trio were arrested.

'The accused were identified as Vikash Chawla (35), Sandeep Pawar (30), and Vikash Jain (29). They were arrested from a garment factory in South-East Delhi. The rates of the odds between the two cricket playing teams kept fluctuating with the fall of wickets and the runs scored over by over,' said Meghna Yadav, Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (South-West).

She added that one laptop, six mobile phones and six note books have been recovered from their possession.

The recovered laptop was used to maintain data and they used to keep records of bets. Whereas, the mobiles were used to get the rates of the odds on the match and also for taking bets from punters.

Mehna said, 'A laptop was used for receiving the rates of betting that fluctuated ball by ball. After that, all the data was maintained manually on the note books.'

A case has been registered under the section 3/4/5 of 9/55 Gambling Act at Govindpuri Police station.
