Court employee held on forgery charge

A court employee was on Monday arrested on charge of forging the signature of a district judge in Burdwan district.

A senior police officer said Baisali Bandyopadhyay, the employee in ‘Civil Judge Junior Division First Court’ office, was arrested from her residence in Burdwan town.

Bandyopadhyay was alleged to have commited the fraudery to dupe hundreds of job seekers and police were interrogating her to unearth the whole racket, the officer said.

The woman had allegedly forged the signature of former district judge Pawan Kumar Mondal on November 30, 2014 and moved for anticipatory bail after Mondal registered a complaint with the then SP, Burdwan.

After completion of initial probe, police on Monday arrested her and she would be produced in court for remand on Tuesday, the officer said.

The job racket had allegedly amassed Rs 40 lakh by duping students, the officer said.
