Cops’ son held for snatching

The son of two Delhi police personnel was caught red-handed while snatching a gold chain from a woman in Outer Delhi’s Narela area on Tuesday.

The accused, identified as Himanshu, 19, was arrested after caught by people while trying to flee from the crime spot. He had  snatched the gold chain from a woman in DSIDC industrial area of Narela. The victim, Sumitra, was walking on the street when Himanshu came on a Pulsar motorcycle and committed the crime.

According to police, Himanshu was also beaten up by the people who caught him, after the victim started screaming. ‘The incident was reported around 4 pm on Tuesday evening,’ said a senior police officer.

Later, a police control room [PCR] call was made and police reached the spot. Himanshu was taken to a hospital for first aid. Police then arrested him and registered a case in Narela police station.

During interrogation, he told police that he had already snatched a chain from another person and Sumitra was his second target in the day.Both the chains have been recovered from his possession. Several cases of snatching have already been registered against Himanshu in other areas, said the official.

Himanshu’s mother Rajwanti is assistant sub-inspector [ASI] posted in Special Branch of Delhi police while his father Kishan is head constable posted in Roop Nagar police station.

He has been arrested three times earlier for committing the same crime in the areas of outer Delhi, said the official. Further interrogations are on.

Two notorious snatchers were held while a police team was checking vehicles in Hari Nagar area of west Delhi on Tuesday. ‘The accused were identified as Suresh alias Subhash, 22, and Mohammad Salman alias Samim,’ said a senior police officer. A pistol, a button knife and a Pulsar motorcycle were recovered from their possession. According to police, police had to chase the accused, who tried to flee from the wrong sideand fell down on the road.
