Cops nab criminal for involvement in various crimes, including murder of TMC leader

Police said that the accused had masterminded various criminal activities in various districts. Police suspect that the accused might have been involved in some recent incidents of dacoity in various districts.

Police have recovered ganja of around 29 kg from his possession. As per the investigation, police suspect that the accused was involved in smuggling of drugs and might have been operating a drug racket from the area.

The accused Mobarak Mondal, a resident of North Ghola area in North 24 Parganas was at large following the murder of a Trinamool Congress activist from Ghola in 2011.

Despite the efforts, the police failed to nab the culprit. After the arrest of some criminals in recent time, the district police came to know that the accused Mubarak had taken shelter in Basirhat for quite a long time and was carrying out various criminal activities.

Police said that the accused along with some others were conducting dacoities, extortions from the businessmen at places like Baduria, Basirhat and some other parts of North 24 Parganas. He was also involved in some murder incidents as well. Acting on a tip-off, a team of district police raided the house adjacent to the Taki road late Saturday night and caught him.

Police were interrogating the accused to know about the other accused, who had been carrying out crimes in the area.The investigating officers are also suspecting that the accused might have been part of the drug peddling racket operating from the state. 

According to the district police, during the interrogation, the accused has confessed that he was involved in various crimes across the district and outside. However, the police are yet to ascertain whether he was smuggling drugs outside the country. Police are not ruling out the possibility of his involvement in any drug peddling racket operating from the bordering areas of the Bangladesh.

As Basirhat is situated close to the international border of Bangladesh, there is a chance of his involvement in the international drug peddling racket.According to a senior police official in the district, the arrest of Mubarak will help the police nab the other dreaded criminals operating from the district. Raids were being conducted to nab the other culprits who were the aides of accused.
