Cops arrest conman who duped aspiring students

A 43-year-old man was arrested for allegedly duping several aspirants on the pretext of assuring them admission to MBBS and engineering courses, police said on Friday.

Piyush Bharat Saini, who police say collected around Rs three crores by charging Rs 15-45 lakh per admission, was arrested recently, they said.

The arrest came on a complaint filed by a retired Professor of Panjab University that his grandson was allured into getting admission to MBBS course in Bharti Vidyapeeth, Pune.

Piyush Bharat Saini’s interrogation brought out that he came to Delhi in 1993 for a diploma course but he could not pass his exams.

‘After that, he completed graduation from Delhi University and started cheating innocent students from Delhi after assuring them about their admissions in diploma/engineering courses in Delhi,’ a senior police official said.

He had earlier been booked on similar charges.

The accused specifically targeted students of remote areas giving advertisements regularly in leading newspapers published in Punjab and other states.
