Congress plans massive show of strength in Delhi today

From Deoria, Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi’s month-long KIsan Yatra will reach Delhi on Thursday. Riding high on the success of this Kisan Yatra, Congress plans a massive show of strength in the national capital when Amethi MP’s yatra concludes. Gandhi scion will visit Rajghat and will address meetings at Sangharsh ghat, Bhairon Mandir, Purana Qila road and Sansad Marg.

Congress leaders point that now the fight shifts to Parliament and the issue of loan waiver for farmers will be raised by their Vice President in the upcoming Winter Session. During his Kisan Yatra in poll bound UP, Gandhi had reiterated that he will raise three major demands: Farm loan waiver, cut in electricity bills and increase in MSP for crops in the Parliament.

Armed with Kisan Mangpatras, Gandhi scion had started his nearly month-long Kisan Yatra from Deoria on September 6 and has travelled more than 3,400 kms. According to the original plan Gandhi was supposed to travel 2,500 kms. He criss crossed the state and travelled 141 assembly constituencies wherein he addressed 26 major Khat Sabhas. Apart from Khat Sabhas, Gandhi addressed people at more than 700 meeting points.

“The success of the yatra can be judged from the positive response that it got from the people of Uttar Pradesh. Rahulji’s yatra forced BJP and SP to announce their yatras too. We are sure that Congress will be forming government in the state,” said MLA Deoria Akhilesh Pratap Singh.

Apart from Khat Sabhas, Kisan Mangpatras – farmers’ demand letters – was another highpoint points Congress’ UP leaders. “This is a yatra which raised the concerns of farmers and poor. Rahul Gandhi has listened to their issues and amplified them. Till today, more than 75 lakh Mang Patras have been collected in UP,” said Congress spokesperson RPN Singh.

The principal opposition party has also charted out the next strategy to exert pressure on government to help the farmers after the yatra concludes on Thursday. “Rahul Gandhi has asked if Modiji can waive loans worth one lakh crore Rs of the corporates then why aren’t the loans of farmers and poor not being waived off as well. Rahul Gandhi shall fight for the farmers from the streets to the Parliament,” added RPN Singh.
