CIL to hold pre-bid consultations on project monitoring system

Coal India will hold pre-bid consultations with all interested bidders prior to issuance of a global tender for setting up a monitoring system for projects of more than Rs 150 crore, as the PSU eyes production of 1 billion tonne by 2019-20.

"With a view to establish a system of monitoring and evaluation of implementation of projects of Coal India (CIL), a pre NIT (Notice Inviting Tender) consultation is invited from parties/agencies having experience in the field," Coal India said in a tender document. The agency should have implemented a multi-level project monitoring system preferably in mining domain and under conditions similar to those prevailing in India, it said.

In the first phase, the "M&E system would be set up for the projects costing more than Rs 150 crore or more", it said, adding that it is not intended to shortlist a panel of prospective bidders through this consultation. The company further said that an open global bid would be invited subsequently for the competitive bidding.

The government had earlier expressed hope that Coal India will surpass its one billion tonne production target by 2020.

However, the PSU had missed the production target for the financial year 2014-15 by three per cent recording an output of 494.23 million tonne (mt).

The company's output target was 507 MT for the last fiscal. The government has set a target of 550 MT coal output for CIL in the current fiscal.
