Chief Secy plants saplings to mark Dalai Lama’s birthday

Addressing the gathering, the Chief secretary appealed to the public to act as <g data-gr-id="22">harbinger</g> of peace and brotherhood and keep their neighbourhood green and clean. He also appealed to them to become “friends of trees”.

Apart from the general public, including children, more than 2,000 Buddhist monks from across the country and abroad participated in the programme. They  and planted trees at the Yamuna bank. 

The programme included planting of 2,000 saplings. Saplings of fruits, flowers and medicinal trees were planted. About 1,500 members of the Himalayan communities from border areas, stretching from Ladakh to Arunachal Pradesh, will also take part in the programme.

Chief secretary Sharma administered a pledge to the participants to plant more and more trees in their surroundings and sustain them.
